"After graduation from MPHS, I attended the Fashion Institute of Technology and was graduated in 1963. That summer I married Stephen Wukovitz (who taught Science and Physics at MPHS in 1961). We have been married for more than 47 years !
We joined the Peace Corps in 1966 and served in Ethiopia until 1968; I was a community development worker (communicating in the national language of Amharic) in Makele, Tigre, on the northern plateau of Ethiopia; Stephen taught in the secondary school in Makele.
We became residents of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, in 1968 where Steve secured a position as a faculty member at Bloomsburg State College (now known as Bloomsburg University). We grew a family of three children -- a daughter (Stephanie) and two sons (Steven and Alexander) who are currently ages 42, 39 and 35, respectively. We have three grandchildren, ages 5, 4 and 2.
I took a number of college courses over the years and eventually obtained my Bachelor’s degree — the same year as both of our sons attained theirs. I have been very active in a number of community organizations and spent some time working in manufacturing. My most enduring activity has been with The Children’s Museum in Bloomsburg, serving as President, organizing and designing exhibits and helping the organization to thrive as a member of the Board of Directors — this over the past 28 years.
Stephen and I took a photo safari to several of the East African game parks in the summer of our Peace Corps service, and visited the home of his grand-father near Vienna (Austria) on our way back to the States. Other travels have included two cross-country train trips to the West Coast in our “retirement” years, a number of trips to Burbank and Seattle to visit our daughter, and a recent trip to Alaska -- among others.
I have become somewhat of a student of American history through my interest in genealogy, documenting family history in early New York City and the Mohawk Valley of Upstate New York. As a couple we enjoy a bit of ballroom dancing. "
