Note from Dick to the Class of '61:
"Regretfully we won't be able to attend the 50-year reunion. But greetings to all who attend ! "
MY PROFILE:
"Attended Graceland College in Iowa, where I earned my BS degree in biological sciences in three years (Magnum Cum Laude). Then went on to Medical School at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. During my senior year I joined the Navy, enrolling in the Ensign 1915 program. Upon graduation I interned at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, and then completed a 3-yr residency in Anesthesiology. I did my pay-back service as an attending physician at nearby Camp Pendleton Naval Hospital. All in all, that was 8 yr of my life, which prepared me well for private practice in Southern California, mostly in small community hospitals, where I usually served as Department Chairman (and as Chief of Staff for one 3-yr period). Believe it or not, I'm ready for a break (retirement) which I anticipate will happen in less than 2 years from now. At present, I've managed to confine my practice to a SurgiCenter -- which means no night, weekend or holiday duty!
1978-1990 were my Marathon years --- 67 full marathons in all, with a best time of 2 hr 42 min (Boston, 1979; Honolulu, San Diego, Palos verdes, Los Angeles, Fiesta Bowl, Oregon Track Club, Los Alamitos, to name a few). Finally found a sport suited to my physical habitus. However, coronary artery disease (CAD) and tendonitis have put an end to my running career. Must have inherited my dad's bad genes. Triple bypass in 2001 and some stents pretty much put an end to heavy exercise.
The '90s saw me joining a group of pain therapy docs. We built a Pain Therapy Center in Murrieta, CA, where I was Medical Director for about 5 yr. Wasn't too crazy about that, so, sold out in '97.
Currently, doing lots of RV camping with a local church group, and by ourselves. Can't get enough of it! We're presently building our retirement home in Idaho, about 100 miles NW of Boise.
My current passions include: digital photography; San Diego Charger football; RVing; my wife, Valerie, and our grandkids Alyssa, Ashlyn, Kyle, Amanda, Kali, Kira, Andrew, Sierra, Brighton, and Shepard, and their parents: Cyndi, Sara, Stephanie, Bryan, John and Rachel. John is the son of Ralph Drollinger (who stands 7 feet 1 inch tall) -- (you might remember Ralph as one of the John Wooden stars during the UCLA national championship string of victories). When we get together for holiday events, it's quite a feat to NOT get whiplash from looking up all the time ! "

PROFILE:
After granduation, I met my husband John A. Henry on November 18, 1961 -- we were married June 3, 1962. ( In 2012 we will hit the "Big 5-0" !! ).
John and I have four wonderful daughters:
• Debra Anne, born March 1964;
• Brenda Lee, born April 1965 (on same day as MY birthday !)
• Rhonda Sue, born January 1970;
• Sondra Lyn, born on May 1977.
In April 1973, my husband John and I took an amazing adventure -- a motocycle ride to Florida. We were gone 8 days -- had a wonderful time, but - when we came home - that was it for me..... no more riding! John rode for 2 more years and then he, too, gave it up.
I was a "stay-at-home" mother. Very busy with four children. It was fun to watch them grow up and turn into four beautiful young women. They have blessed us with a total of 9 grandchildren: Debra has 2 boys -- Steven (25) and Anthony (22); Brenda has 3 children -- Ashley (25), Alex (21) and Megan (12); Rhonda has 2 children -- Kasey (15) and Gregory (13) [both born on the same calendar day in October); and Sondra has 2 girls -- Olivia (4) and Emma (almost 2). Also, our oldest grandson, Steven, married last July 2010, and this April (2011) presented us with our first great-granddaughter, Nicole Marie.
In 2001, our daughter's husband, Alex, found out that he had brain cancer. In 2002, he formed "Team Alex", consisting of about 35 family and friends, and we all went to Washington D.C. in May 2001 for a "5K Walk/Run" for brain cancer. We now do it every year. Sadly, we lost Alex in January 2003; he is missed and still dearly loved. Since then, Brenda has met Gary, and they were married last September (2010). Life does go on...........
Our family is very strong, and we all get along well. It is so much fun when we are all together. My husband and I enjoy yard work and gardening. So much fun to enjoy eating our own gardening produce ! A photo (above) shows some of this bounty.......
Every New Year's Day we host an Open House for famiy and friends. I make up a funny poem to welcome them all at the door. A photo (above) shows an example of this.
We have learned that family is one of the most important things. After growing up and looking back, I feel that "we" grew up in one of the best tiimes and had one of the best town's to call home.
I am thankful for this MPHS1961 website, and enjoy looking at it often. Thank you!
To my Classmates of the Class of '61 : Take care of yourselves; Be healthy and happy, and may God Bless You All. And wishing everyone of you many, many more Happy New Years to enjoy !
