PROFILE:
After high school, George attended Newark College of Engineering and graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering. But during his Jr. year in college, he felt led to change directions. So he went on to get a Masters of Divinity Degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. This was followed by a Masters Degree in Pastoral Counseling from Andover Newton Theological Seminary.
He began his pastoral ministry in 1969 at the First Baptist Church in Greene, Maine, where he met and married Carol Nielsen in 1970. Since then, they have had three children that are now grown up and have children of their own. They have now been together for over 40 years, and are thankful for God's leading in their lives.
George went on to serve churches in Madison ME, Bangor ME, and New Milford PA. Since October, 1997, he has been at the First Baptist Church in Sidney OH where he plans to stay until he retires.
He still plays chess at a chess club in Sidney, enjoys a good game of Scrabble, and often plays a card game called "Stick the Dealer." George has been in the ministry for over forty years, enjoys preaching the Word of God and visiting the people. His vision statement for ministry is "To be centered in Christ and led by the Spirit, while sharing God's love in a friendly, caring way." He strongly believes in the power of prayer and gives the Lord the credit for the success he has had as a pastor.
40. GOULD, Russell V. ("Russ") -- now deceased (May 2009)
1961
Russ (Russell Victor Gould), was born on July 26, 1942 in Paterson, NJ, to Russell and Sophia Gould.
In his sophomore year, Russ moved to Midland Park and joined our high school Class of 1961. After graduation, he went to work for the National Biscuit Company (Nabisco) in Fair Lawn, NJ, as a shift supervisor. He also joined the New Jersey National Guard.
Engaged in Dec 1963 to Cherylin Hogan (a graduate of Ramapo Regional High School, as well as Paterson State Teachers College), he married her in May of 1965 in Franklin Lakes NJ; they had three children, but divorced in 1990 after 25 years of marriage. A year later, in June 1991, Russ and Jerrylea Williams were married in Pompton Lakes (also her second marriage).
After retiring from Nabisco, Russ and Jerrylea moved from Pompton Lakes, NJ, to Clermont, Florida, where -- in his retirement -- Russ enjoyed working for Walt Disney World in Orlando.
On May 21, 2009, at the age of 66, Russ passed away in Celebration, FL; cause of death was respiratory failure due to lung cancer. At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife, Jerrylea; his daughter, Eileen Pricken of Haskell, NJ; his son, Jeffrey Gould of Canadensis, PA; a step-son, Harry Van Vliet (US Army) of Ft.
